I believe so much in the power of the idea, it hurts.
And when that idea is free, the power multiplies. Because the idea that travels, picks up speed and pace and potential as it hops from brain to brain, situation to situation until it finds its designated spot where it can stop, wait and be the lightning rod for change, is an idea that has real value.
So in this spirt, I’d like to give away ideas. I’ve set up an idea stream on leonjacobs.com called Vonk!
Vonk is the Afrikaans word for spark.
Many sparks make a flame. Geddit?
You are free to browse, use, and do with these whatever you like – as long if you attribute them back to the source page on the site. Importantly, I implore you to try and build on the ideas that you’d like to use. They are by no means perfect, they are merely a stab in the dark. Incomplete, a moment of inspiration, waiting to be improved upon.
Visit Vonk by clicking here.

A new dawn, a new day.
leonjacobs.com now sports a more flexible theme, but still maintains the sort of the simplicity of layout which I liked about the previous design.
I now have better feed management, so subscribe to any feed if you please.
I’ve also added an Adsense box, so the site now serves Google ads. They are unobtrusive, relevant and could turn out to be useful. So click if you see something you like and I can earn 0.0000001 cents for my trouble.
But most importantly, I now have added a creative commons license. It is a project I passionately believe in as I’m a proponent of open-source models in idea distribution. It is the future of humanity and its alleged survival. Have a look at my specific license, if you please.
As always, thanks for stopping by.

My feeling is that a blog has to be about something. It has to have a single-minded proposition, so to speak.
So in the coming weeks I will roll out a few more blogs, but focusing them single-mindedly on the topic or idea I am interested in.
leonjacobs.com will remain a sort of edited version of the highlights of those blogs. Stay in touch here to know what is happening elsewhere, or feel free to be part of the conversation on the blogs you are interested in.
The first new blog is about my current hometown, Hong Kong. I call it Vertigo City. So much of Hong Kong is high up, on a tight-rope, suspended from disbelief. That blog is about my experiences of living in Hong Kong.
I’ve always had Kantlyn, which is a collection of some Afrikaans poetry and short fiction that I have penned – although to be honest – I haven’t in a while.
More to follow in the time to come.

Leon the Pigfarmer
It was my birthday on the 27th.
My China team gave me this cute little guy for a cake.
In my first advertising job I got the nickname Leon the Pigfarmer.
I have come full circle.

Allan Kent a.k.a. MediaFrenzy, in his infinite boredom, tagged me with that 7-facts thing. Here are the rules:
- link to the person who tagged you
- post the rules here
- share seven random or weird facts about yourself
- tag seven random people at the end of the post, linking to them
- leave a comment on their blog so they know they’ve been tagged
Seven things few people know about me:
- Early in adult life I delivered traffic summonses for a living
- I have caught three burglars in two different occasions whilst in the act
- For relaxation, I draw the same face over and over again
- I can land an Airbus A380 on X-Plane
- I once studied to become a minister of religion
- English is my second language
- I was a vegan for 6 months – once
Now: Amy, Andria, Ivan, Ivo, Francois, Stephanie and Alex. You are the proverbial it.

A change is as good as a holiday.
I need a new post to get started.
So the least said the better.
Howzit, and all that.
